Overview Food Security

"USDA cancels survey tracking how many Americans struggle to get enough food" reports NPR on September 22, 2025.

The USDA has ended publishing the Household Food Security Report that provides yearly data on the lack of access to adequate nutrition for low-income Americans, and helps shape policy on how to combat food insecurity and hunger. The 2024 publication was due to be published on October 22, 2025. These organizations provide data to support nonprofits working to reduce food insecurity in America.

Center for Food Demand Analysis & Sustainability - Purdue University
The Center for Food Demand Analysis and Sustainability (CFDAS) at Purdue tracks consumer insights and the economics of the food system to produce timely reports on trends and emerging topics. The U.S. Food Insecurity dashboard tracks the national rate of food insecurity by aggregating academic, governmental and nonprofit survey data.
Feeding America
We believe that addressing the problem of hunger requires a thorough understanding of the problem. Released annually, our landmark study Map the Meal Gap looks at overall and child hunger down to the county level. New in 2022, it also includes estimates for select racial and ethnic groups.
Food Environment Atlas (USDA)
Food Assistance maps data on SNAP, School breakfast and lunch programs, Summer Food Service, WIC, Child & Adult Care programs, and Foodbanks. Most of the data is from 2021 except the SNAP program which uses 2023 data.
Food Research & Action Center
State-by-State School Meals Fact Sheets. The fact sheets include data on the reach of school breakfast and school lunch in every state during the 2023-2024 school year.
Healthy Food Access Portal
Run by The Food Trust, the Healthy Food Access Portal brings together the rapidly growing body of research, best practices, resources and policy information for community members, practitioners, advocates, entrepreneurs and others who are committed to ensuring that all communities have access to healthy, quality, affordable food.
Tracking Government Information
Tracking actions by the current administration that impact government information, such as: removed or modified documents and websites; language censorship; suspension or elimination of agencies, program, funding, or services; and collection of government data.
