Under the heading, Ending Wasteful Spending, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) terminated or did not renew 8,845 contracts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and more than a dozen other agencies. These contracts provided funding to universities to continue crucial research on diseases, nonprofit organizations for substance abuse programs, drug companies for the research and development of new drugs, and small agencies who specialize in sign language interpretation.
