This guide offers a starting point in finding current news publications via the Bentley Library. Includes U.S. news, international news, and more. Includes directions on how to register for Bloomberg, Economist, FT, NYT, and WSJ accounts.

Bentley University students, faculty and staff members have free access to The New York Times website through the Bentley Library's Group Pass subscription. Users can also use their mobile devices to access the New York Times.

Our Group Pass Subscription Includes:

  • News: Breaking News, Investigative Reporting, Cultural Reviews and Criticism, Opinions, Newsletters, and More 
  • Cooking: Recipes and Advice
  • Wirecutter: Product Reviews and Recommendations
  • Audio: Exclusive Shows, Narrated Articles, and More

Our Group Pass Subscription Does Not Include:

  • Games: Including the Crossword, Spelling Bee, and more
  • The Athletic: Breaking news and in-depth sports reporting
  • Home Delivery of the print edition of the paper

New User Registration

  • Go to Bentley's New York Times Group Pass page.
    • Off Campus users will have to first log in to a Bentley login screen with their Bentley email address and password. Multifactor authentication is enabled, so make sure to have your device with you.
  • Select "Create Account."
  • Complete the Sign Up form with your Bentley University email address. When you see the Start Your Access screen, you have successfully registered.
    • If asked to create a password, we recommend using a password different than your Bentley network password for security reasons.

Getting Started Tips

Renewing Your New York Times Account

All New York Times accounts will expire on their one year anniversary. If you are a current Bentley student, faculty or staff member, you are eligible to renew your account.

Follow these steps to easily renew your nytimes.com account:

  • Go to Bentley Library's unique group pass account activation page.
    • If you are off campus, you will need to log in with your Bentley email address and password first to gain access to the page. Multifactor authentication is enabled, so make sure to have your device available.
  • Click on Already have an account? Log in here. Login with the same username and password that you registered with. If you have forgotten your password, click the Forgot password? link.
  • You will see an on-screen confirmation that your pass has been reactivated, the new expiration date, and an option to add a calendar reminder for next year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Make sure you have activated your account by using Bentley's special New York Times Group Pass link to either create an account or renew your account.

New York Times accounts require that you set up your own unique password. If you do not remember your password, please follow the "Forgot your password?" prompts to reset.

Your browser cache or history may have cleared itself. Try logging back in.

Bentley's New York Times group pass subscription offers you access to a lot of content available from the New York Times - but not everything. Premium access to games and crosswords is not covered by our subscription. The Athletic is also not part of our subscription.

Access to archived articles within the date range 1923-1980 is limited. Within this date range, you may only open 5 PDF articles per day.

The New York Times inEducation

Bentley's NYTimes.com academic site license provides course-relevant content including videos, photos, infographics, and podcasts.  Newyorktimesineducation.com provides selected areas of study for students to explore, from American Government, to Biology, to Microeconomics, to Writing and English Composition, and beyond.  There are instructional strategies designed to promote learning across disciplines and ideas for coo-curricular activities outside of the classroom.

Where else can I access the New York Times?

While the New York Times site subscription allows access to breaking news as well as blogs and other online content not included in the Bentley Library's databases, databases allow unlimited access to their content and more powerful searching capabilities.

Research Consultations: Research Help by Appointment

Research Consultations are scheduled one-on-one meetings with a reference librarian. You can also schedule these consultations for a small group. Consultations usually last 30 minutes and take place during Reference Librarian Hours as listed above. 48 hours advanced notice required.

Research Guides

Research Guides are resources created by Bentley Librarians to guide you through research. These guides will contain a map of best bet resources of where to find information and search tips to make the research process easier.
