Vice Presidential Debate

Tuesday, October 1st

Announcement: "Gov. Tim Walz, Sen. JD Vance agree to VP debate hosted by CBS News on Oct. 1" (August 15, 2024).

Starting with the 1988 elections after its establishment in 1987, the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates has planned and sponsored presidential debates. This year, the campaigns of President Joseph Biden and former President Donald Trump have arranged debates outside of the commission ("The Commission on Presidential Debates Faces an Uncertain Future after Biden and Trump Bypassed It" - May 16, 2024). 

The Commission on Presidential Debates released the following statement on June 24, 2024: "Statement on CPD's 2024 General Election Debates"

Prior to President Joseph Biden withdrawing from the presidential race on July 21, 2024, he participated in a debate hosted by CNN in Atlanta, GA against former President Donald Trump on June 27, 2024. 

2024 Presidential Primaries and Caucuses

Party Primaries and Caucuses occurred throughout Spring 2024 in each state.

Based on the outcomes of the primary elections and caucuses, party delegates from each state were sent to the national party conventions.

U.S. Senate

About 1/3 of the 100 Senate seats will be up for election in 2024.

U.S. House of Representatives

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives will be up for election in 2024.
