This guide is for Professor Mike Bravo's HNR440 & HNR445 Honors Capstone Project class held in Spring 2025 .

Finding Non-Profit Foster Care Organizations

Free Sources:

  • Search Tip: Click on "Search" to go to advanced search. Under the Organization tab you can use the Subject browse to select "foster care" (human services > family services > child welfare > foster care =1,890 results). You can also browse other subjects, or use the basic search box do a simple keyword search. 
  • Search Tip: You can search the directory using keywords, e.g. "aging out".

Search the Web:

  • When searching the web, use the keywords you would use if searching an article database [see keywords suggestions on the Find Articles & Current News page. Evaluate your sources carefully! For example:
    • Can you find the organization listed in one of the directories listed above?
    • What information about the organization is available from the website (e.g. history, mission, annual reports, services, news, biographical information on officers and directors, contact information)?
    • Does the website and the information presented on the website seem current?
    • Are sources cited? When statistics and other types of factual data are presented are they cited so that they may be verified?
    • How does the information presented on the website compare to information you have gathered elsewhere - including other websites, articles, interviews, etc.?
