*Bentley Library Status and Services

Due to precautions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, services at the Bentley Library will be different from past academic years. This guide provides an overview of our services and operations and will be updated throughout the year.

Picking Up Holds

Place holds on books, DVDs, and Audiobooks in the Bentley Library Search. We'll pull the items and have them ready for you to pick up! The books will be available on our open holdshelf in the library lobby and you can use one of our self-checkout stations to check out the books.

If you do not feel comfortable entering the library building, please contact Library Services (libraryservices@bentley.edu or 781.891.2168) to discuss contactless pickup options.

Returning Materials

The Bentley Library is accepting returns of books and other materials that have been checked out. The outdoor book drop, just to the left of the main entrance of the library, is open 24/7.

If you are unable to visit the library, please contact Library Services in order to discuss alternative ways to return your borrowed materials.

Museum Passes

The Bentley Library Museum Pass Program is currently limited. Museums, zoos, and other attractions are adjusting their services and hours based on precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Visit our Museum Pass Program page for more information and updates:

Course Reserves

Our physical reserve collection will be available when the library building is open. These items can be used in the library for either 2 hours or 4 hours. Please use your best judgement and be sure to sanitize or wash your hands before and after use.

We will encourage professors to make chapters and passages of books available on Blackboard when applicable.

Interlibrary Loan

The COVID-19 pandemic makes the lending of physical library materials between libraries difficult in addition to longer delivery times. As such, we strongly recommend requesting just book chapters if you do not need to consult the entire book. The scans will be delivered electronically and in a timely manner.  Please remember that copyright limits do apply for these requests. No more than 10% of a work can be scanned for Interlibrary Loan and Scan on Demand requests. View the Bentley University Copyright Policy for more information.

Please contact the Interlibrary Loan department via email (interlibloan@bentley.edu) with any questions.

Scan on Demand

Faculty

Bentley's Scan on Demand is a free, electronic document delivery service that enables Faculty to request and obtain digital scans of journal articles and book chapters from the Library’s print collections. Requests are submitted just like an interlibrary loan request. To learn more about this service, visit our visit our Scan on Demand FAQ page or contact us at 781.891.2301 or interlibloan@bentley.edu.

Please remember that this is for personal research only. For scan requests for the purpose of posting on Blackboard for course reserves, please submit a request form or contact Anne Jorgensen at ajorgensen@bentley.edu or 781.981.2317.

Students

Students studying remotely will be allowed to make Scan on Demand requests. This will allow you to request selections of books we have in the library or journal articles that are only available in our print collection. This includes items that might be on physical course reserve. You can find out more and make a request in our Scan on Demand FAQs.

Please note that all Scan on Demand requests are subject to copyright.  Requests that exceed copyright guidelines such as requests for scans of full textbooks will not be filled. For more information on copyright restrictions, see our Copyright Policy.
