U.S. Citizens Traveling to Kuwait: What to Know

Traveling anywhere in the world involves some level of risk. The U.S. Department of State has deemed Kuwait a Level 1 risk: Exercise Normal Precautions. They advise:

 ü Be aware of your surroundings.

 ü Stay alert in locations and venues frequented by large groups of people and travelers or tourists.

 ü Enroll in Smart Traveler Enrollment Program to receive alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.

 ü Review the Country Security Report for Kuwait.

 ü Visit the CDC page for the latest Travel Health Information related to your travel.

 ü U.S. citizens who travel abroad should review the Traveler’s Checklist.

"While Kuwait can be a great place to live and work, it’s always wise to be prepared for a crisis, and it’s important to take responsibility and be proactive. Below are some easy steps you can take to prepare your family for such an event." The following are useful tips in any emergency from the Bureau of Consular Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.

  • Lost Passport - You will have to replace the passport before returning to the United States. Contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate for assistance. 
  • Financial Help - If you need financial assistance while abroad, start first by asking family, friends, or your employer if they can helpThe American Citizen Services team at the U.S. Embassy Kuwait City can help you reach them, if necessary.
  • As of June 9, 2022, the Kuwaiti government has resumed issuing visas on arrival to U.S. citizens visiting Kuwait. The visas are free for U.S. citizens and allow the visa holder to stay up to three months in Kuwait.
  • You may wish to obtain travel health insurance to pay for emergency and/or routine medical services overseas. If you have health insurance in the United States, find out if it provides coverage for routine and/or emergency medical services abroad. Check Your Health Abroad.
